The "Backyard Boogie" will be a BBQ contest for the BBQ enthusiast who wants to prove to his neighbors and friends that he/she has what it takes to be the best of the best in our local hometown competition. This event will consist of more than 60 teams of amateurs cooking both chicken, pork ribs, and sauce.
The winner will receive an award and a paid entry into the
2010 "It's a Smokin' Blues & BBQ Challenge"!

The Chicken Little Contest

The “Chicken Little” BBQ event pits children from the ages of 6 –16 in a contest to see who can BBQ the best chicken in Hammond. Rules will state that an adult must accompany the children, but the children will have to do all of the preparation, seasoning & cooking on their own. Parents may help in the sectioning of the chicken only. Judges will award prizes from 1st to 10th prizes in this category. All entries will need to bring their own BBQ Pit. Only charcoal pits will be allowed. No gas pits please!

No refunds will be issued due to inclement weather conditions.
In the event of inclement weather, it is your responsibility to secure all of your team’s items (including tents, pits, chairs and tables)
In the event of inclement weather, award presentations will be moved to your division’s judging tent.

Join us Saturday, March 27th for the 3rd annual “Hammond Sweet Tea Challenge.”
The Tangipahoa Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau will once again team up with Y’all Magazine and Amtrak for the 3rd annual “Sweet Tea Challenge”.
Two winners will receive prize packages that include round-trip tickets for two aboard Amtrak, photo in a national magazine as well as local publications, trophies, gifts galore, and most importantly...bragging rights! The contest is free to enter and open to Tangipahoa Parish and the surrounding areas. Arrive early to receive your complimentary tee shirt (limited to the first 50 entrants) Simply bring one quart of your best sweet tea to the Tangipahoa Tourism tent anytime between 10am and 12pm on Saturday, March 27th.
The two Sweet Tea categories include:
Individual (regular or flavored)
Commercial (restaurants/catering companies)
Winners will be announced on stage during the 2010 Smokin’ Blues and BBQ Challenge.
Schedule of Events:
10 am to 12 pm: Registration
12:30pm to 2pm: Judging
3:55 pm: Awards ceremony
