2009 Smokin' Blues and BBQ Challenge in Downtown Hammond , Louisiana - HUGE SUCCESS

This year's event will be March 27th - March 28th, 2009. More than 50 KCBS teams from around the U.S. will compete against each other and local teams for more than $12,000 in Cash & Prizes. This year's event will also feature 60+ local teams competing in the Backyard Boogey and the Lamar Outdoor Advertising Chicken Little Contest, making this event the largest BBQ event in the State of Louisiana for the fifth year in a row.
The event also features local Bands from around the region playing music on the Northshore Broadcasting stage both Friday night and Saturday. Come and enjoy world class BBQ and listen to local favorites.

Charter Media KCBS Challenge
This contest is a KCBS regulated and judged contest. Teams from around the country will compete with local teams for the honor of becoming the 2009 Grand and Reserve Champions. These teams and the judges that come to make the final judgement love to cook and talk BBQ. Come by to see the world's best do their thing cooking Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork and Brisket! Wal-Mart Backyard Boogie Contest
Local BBQ masters face off to see who is King of the Coals in the backyard cookoff. Cooking Sauce, Ribs and Chicken is a must in this division. Come and join the competition or just join the fun as your friends and neighbors try to prove who is truly The King of the Coals! Spaces fill up quickly, so register TODAY! Lamar Outdoor Advertising Chicken Little Contest
Young people of all ages can compete in our Kid's Cookoff. Come watch as the chefs of towmorrow compete for prizes cooking chicken. This is really the most fun portion of our competition. These teams of kids take all of this very seriously and no one leaves without a certificate of participation. Our thanks to Lamar Outdoor for underwriting this childrens event.

The Daily Star BBQ Cooking Classes
The Daily Star Newspaper is proudly sponsoring BBQ cooking classes. These classes will be held both Tuesday March 24th & Wednesday March 25th from 6:00pm until 7:30pm. The classes are $25.00 per person, per night. Come and learn from the best of the best when it comes to cooking Chicken, Pork Ribs, Brisket and Pulled Pork! 3rd Annual ‘Sweet Tea Challenge’
There are a few things in life that are destined to be together... peanut butter and jelly, ham and cheese, and of course sweet tea and barbeque.
Join us Saturday, March 28th for the 3rd annual “Hammond Sweet Tea Challenge.”
The Tangipahoa Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau will once again team up with Y’all Magazine and Amtrak for the 3rd annual “Sweet Tea Challenge”. two winners will receive prize packages that include round-trip tickets for two aboard Amtrak, photo in a national magazine as well as local publications, trophies, gifts galore, and most importantly...bragging rights! The contest is free to enter and open to Tangipahoa Parish and the surrounding areas. Arrive early to receive your complimentary tee shirt (limited to the first 50 entrants)Simply bring one quart of your best sweet tea to the Tangipahoa Tourism tent anytime between 10am and 12pm on Saturday, March 28.

Winners will be announced on stage during the 2008 Smokin’ Blues and BBQ Challenge.
